The historical roots of BASF Construction Polymers GmbH date from the development of the first Melment® product, a modified melamine sulphonate, which was introduced to the construction industry at the end of the 60s.
Milestones in our company’s history:
- Late 60s: Development and market introduction of the first melamine based superplasticizer: Melment®
- Early 80s: Start of oilfield activities
- 1982: New dispersant for well cementing
- 1986: Market launch of Polydrill®
- 1990: First formulations for well cementing
- 1991: Expansion of production capacities by acquisition and modernization of SKW Bauwerkstoffe Piesteritz GmbH (now PCI Bauwerkstoffe GmbH)
- Early to late 90s: Development and launch of Melvis® stabilizer and several new tailor-made melamine sulphonates
- 1994: Certified ISO 9002
- Mid 90s: Development and sales of plasticizers for refractory materials: Castament®
- 1995: Broadening of product portfolio by naphthalene based plasticizers via acquisition of Liquiment Linz GmbH (Liquiment® and Melcret®)
- 1995: Introduction of new co-polymers (fluid loss additives) for well construction 1997: Re-certified ISO 9002: 1994 and certified ISO 14001
- 1998: Start-up of a new polymer and piloting production facility
- From 1998: Development and marketing of a new generation of high-performance superplasticizers based on polycarboxylate ethers (Melflux®)
- Simultaneously: Development and market launch of stabilizers / viscosifiers Starvis® and Bio-polymers Biovis® and Bioflow®
- 2000: Re-certified ISO 9002: 1994 and ISO 14001
- From 2001: Ground breaking for new Construction Chemicals Research and Competence Center
- 2002: Certified ISO 9001 : 2000
- 2003: Renaming of SKW Polymers GmbH into Degussa Construction Polymers GmbH
- 2006: In March BASF Aktiengesellschaft, Ludwigshafen, decided to acquire the global Construction Chemical business of Degussa AG. In July BASF officially aquired the business and in August the company name changed to BASF Construction Polymers GmbH
- 2006: In August Degussa Construction Polymers GmbH was renamed to BASF Construction Polymers GmbH
